SAP

The Standard Assessment Procedure ( SAP ) is the methodology used by the Government to assess and compare the energy and environmental performance of dwellings L1A – SAP calculations for new dwellings.

In order to demonstrate compliance with Approved Document L1A you must provide your Building Control Officer with a SAP calculation for each new-dwelling.

A SAP calculation is the Government’s approved methodology for calculating the energy performance of dwellings. All new dwellings must achieve a dwelling CO2 emission rate (DER) no greater than a target CO2 emission rate (TER). The SAP calculation process is in two stages:

  1. Design-stage
  2. As-built stage

SBEM

An SBEM Calculation (Simplified Building Energy Model) is used to calculate the compliance of your new build commercial property with Part L Building Regulations.

SBEM calculations are completed in Government approved modelling software and will take into account your building materials, the type of heating, cooling, hot water, ventilation and lighting Services.

Furthermore, the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind turbines and ground/air-source heating will all contribute to your final results.

These calculations provide a clear picture of the energy performance and carbon emissions of your proposed property.

Energy Plus Simulation key features

  • EnergyPlus provides advanced dynamic thermal simulation at sub-hourly timesteps.
  • Environmental performance data such as energy consumption, carbon emissions, room comfort at annual, monthly, daily, hourly, and sub-hourly intervals.
  • Report solar gains on surfaces, surface temperatures and radiant exchanges.
  • Access an extensive range of results for buildings and systems.

Daylight Analyses

Accurately assess natural daylight and visual comfort.

Ensure good use of natural daylight and visual comfort in your designs through accurate illuminance contour plots generated by the state of the art Daylighting analyses.

The Daylighting analyses calculates a wide range of standard daylight metrics including Daylight Factor, Daylight Autonomy (sDA), Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE) and Useful Daylight Illuminance (UDI) using the advanced Radiance and Daysim simulation engines.

Daylighting key features

  • Calculate LEED, BREEAM and Green Star credits.
  • Generate high-quality illuminance contour plots to illustrate daylight availability within each zone, block or slice through the whole building.
  • Full multi-zone simulation covering the transmission of light through exterior and interior windows.
  • Average daylight factors and uniformity data can be shown in tabular reports.
